Pythagoras endorsed it in ancient Greece. St. Benedict made it a rule for his Benedictine Order of monks. Today 5% of Americans identify as Pescatarian — vegetarians who also eat fish — and it’s a diet exalted by health experts, foodies and chefs worldwide.

In 2020, The National Fisheries Institute introduced National Pescatarian Month to celebrate the pescatarian diet and help educate the public on the benefits of this lifestyle. In conjunction with National Seafood Month (also in October), the NFI’s efforts for National Pescatarian Month include the release of a pescatarian e-cookbook and the publishing of a great deal of helpful content on its Dish on Fish blog.
